What is back pain?
Are you experiencing 'back pain'? Do not worry. You are not alone. At least 80 out of 100 people experience pain in their back, sometime in their life. This is a common problem. There are various reasons for 'back pain'. Some of the causes may sound silly and some may be serious. Anyways, it is curable.

What causes back pain?
Back pain occurs due to stress or strain on the back. Strain on the spine can occur due to various reasons. Some of the common reasons are listed below:
  • Poor posture
  • Standing or sitting down for long intervals.
  • Lack of exercise
  • Lifting or pushing heavy loads

    Alternative remedies to cure back pain
      Ayurvedic remedies: The following herbs can cure back pain:
    • Kaishore guggulu (available in the tablet form)
    • Yogaraj guggulu (available in the tablet form)
    • Musta (This is a pain killer which is generally available in the powder form. It is mixed with water and consumed)
      Home remedies: The following tips can cure back ache:
    • Include garlic in you diet daily.
    • Drink a juice made of tulsi (holy basil) leaves. This juice is made by boiling 12 tulsi leaves in a cup of water, which is made to boil until the volume becomes half. Then it is cooled and consumed.
      Homeopathic remedies:
    • Aesculus:This remedy is suggested for people with low back pain.
    • Arnica:This is a remedy with a well-known reputation for its usefulness in injuries and pain to soft tissue and muscles.
    • Bryonia: This remedy is indicated when back pain is very severe, even with a slight movement. Changing position, coughing, turning, or walking may cause an acute, excruciating pain. This remedy can be helpful for backaches after injury and backaches during illness.
      Aromatherapy:Essential oils, which cure backache, are as follows:
    • For minor pain: Lavender, marjoram, rosemary and clary sage.
    • For acute pain: Ginger, black pepper and birch.

      Hydrotherapy:Apply alternate hot and cold compresses to the painful area. Three minutes for the hot compress and one minute for the cold, when repeated 5 times, works wonders. The hot compress will increase blood flow to the area and relax the muscles, while the cold compress helps reduce inflammation.
      Massage therapy:Massage therapy has a relaxing and calming effect. Backache can be relieved when massaged with the following oils:
    • Eucalyptus oil
    • Mustard oil
      Acupuncture: If back pain persists for more than three months (which means it's long term), then acupuncture may help in reducing the pain. Acupuncture would help in stimulating the release of natural chemicals that block pain within the brain and spinal cord. These chemicals are known as endorphins. According to traditional acupuncture practitioners, the treatment removes the blockages along energy channels in the body to reduce pain.
      Yoga:Yoga relieves back pain, if practiced regularly. Some of the yoga postures are stated below. These exercises work wonders.
    • Cobra (Bhujangasana)
    • Lotus (Padmasana)
