What is bronchitis?
Bronchitis is a condition that occurs when the inner walls that line the main air passageways of the lungs become infected and inflamed. Generally, bronchitis follows a respiratory infection.

    Ayurvedic remedies:

  • Adhatoda vasica: This is a well-known herb, which is used in ayurvedic medicine for its effects on bronchitis. The alkaloids present in the leaves produce dilation of the bronchial tubes.
  • Mullein (botanical name-: Verbascum thapsus): The floral parts of this herb prove to be helpful in the cure of bronchitis. Mullein removes the accumulated mucus and thus cures the bronchi.

    Home remedies:
    A mixture of a teaspoon of garlic oil and 3 teaspoons of honey can be taken at least 3 times in a day. Garlic oil can be massaged on the chest and throat. This can reduce the mucus and cure severe coughs. Drink peppermint tea. This can lessen the symptoms.

    Aromatherapy:
    Bronchitis is a respiratory disorder; therefore steam inhalation, massaging, and bathing are all effective ways to treat bronchitis. The important essential oils in the treatment of bronchitis are as follows:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Hyssop
  • Aniseed
  • Lavender
  • Rosemary
  • Sandalwood
  • Cedar wood
  • Peppermint
    The essential oils can be taken in the following ways:
  • Few drops on the handkerchief
  • Steam distillation
  • Few drops can be mixed with water while bathing

    Homeopathic remedies:

  • Ipecac: This helps in reducing the mucus.
  • Phosphorus: This helps in reducing the soreness of throat.

    Dietary supplements:

  • Beta-carotene: This helps in the protection of the lung tissue.
