What is measles? Measles, also known as rubeola, is a common disease caused by a virus of the genus Morbillivirus.
What are the symptoms of measles? The symptoms of measles come to light only after 10-14 days after one is infected with the measles virus. This period is called as the incubation period. The following symptoms gets revealed in the early phase: Fever Cough Runny nose Red eyes (conjunctivitis)
There is another type of measles wherein, the symptoms are shown from 2-4 days after a person gets infected. The rash usually starts on the head. Often you may develop grayish spots, called Koplik spots, on the inside of your mouth just before the rash appears. The rash is usually not itchy.
What causes measles? The causes of measles are as follows: Measles virus is very contagious. And, this infection spreads from person to person very rapidly. When an infected person sneezes or coughs, the very small water droplets, which the person expels, carry the virus within them. These droplets have the potential to infect anyone who may come into contact with them. The virus may also spread through air.

Ayurvedic remedies: Take 1 capsule of safflower with meals (twice a day). This is beneficial. Herbal remedies: The following herbs have good effect in curing measles. Amur corktree (Phellodendron amurense) Pomegranate (Punica granatum) Goldthread (Coptis chinensis) Forsythia (Forsythia suspensa) Japanese sumac (Rhus javanica) Chinese Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) Home remedies: Fresh Orange juice must be consumed at least twice. Barley water should be taken 2-3 times. Lemonade is also suggested and it can be taken often. Mild sweating: For at least 15 to 20 minutes, lie on a bed covered with a thick blanket. Add one-tablespoon raisins to one tablespoon of fresh ginger. Crush and put in 200-ml water for one hour. This decoction should be boiled till the water reduces to 50 ml. Strain and drink while warm.Homeopathic remedies: Belladonna: This remedy is suggested when fever is experienced very rapidly with a red flushed face, hot skin, dilated eyes that are sensitive to light, and a throbbing headache. The rash is red and may be hot to touch. Bryonia: This remedy is suggested when the rash is slow to appear, and the chest is congested with a painful cough. The person’s head pains while coughing. Euphrasia: This remedy is suggested when the eyes of a person are swollen, streaming and very sensitive to light. The tears can irritate the face and the person’s nose may run with a watery discharge. The person has chills, feels worse from warmth and prefers to stay in a dark room and isolated from everyone. |
