What is a nightmare? A nightmare is a scary dream, which occurs during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. A nightmare arouses a feeling of intense, inescapable fear, terror, distress and extreme anxiety which usually awakens the one from deep sleep.
What causes nightmares? The causes of nightmares are as follows: Prescription of certain drugs such as reserpine, levedopa, beta-blockers and antidepressants can provoke nightmares. Drinking alcohol excessively can also cause nightmares. Conflicts or any extreme psychological stress can cause nightmares.
Alternative remedies: Herbal remedy: It is believed that placing a sprig of thyme helps in repelling nightmares. The herb called lavender also has the power to repel nightmares.Relaxation therapy: Practice exercises which reduces muscle tension. This can also reduce anxiety and thus prevent occurance of nightmares. Home remedies: Avoid the use of tranquilizers.
