What is a snore?
Snoring is a rough and noisy breathing process, which occurs when a person is deep asleep. Snoring may vary from a soft noise to a loud unpleasant sound.
What causes snoring?
A vibration of the uvula and soft palate gives rise to a sound, which is referred to as snoring.
Alternative remedies:
Aromatherapy:
Marjoram oil is believed to be the most appropriate oil to reduce snoring. When you lie down to sleep, your tongue, soft palate and uvula relax onto the back of your throat causing an obstruction. Snoring is due to the vibration caused by this obstruction while breathing in and out. Marjoram oil opens up the airway passages, adds muscle tone to the throat area and takes away that obstruction. It is generally available in a jar. The jar should be left open by your bedside, before sleeping thus allowing the oil to gradually fill the bedroom with a pleasant scent.
Home remedies:
Avoid alcohol (if you drink).
The snoring sound can be lowered if you sleep sideways.
If you are over-weight, try to reduce weight.
Avoid tranquillizers and sleeping pills.
Homeopathic remedies:
The following remedies are suggested to reduce snoring. However, the dosage varies from person to person:
